Hi, I’m Paula Aceves. I’m a writer and editor based in Brooklyn.

I’ve written reported features and profiles, including a New York Magazine cover story on newly-arrived migrants stuck in a perpetual loop, a reported story on the Columbia faculty embroiled in the Israel/Palestine conflict, a profile of tech ethicist Rumman Chowdhury, a feature on an ongoing wave of social media lawsuits, a feature on a Tibetan NYPD officer accused of espionage, a feature on the Afghan women who have made crypto trading their primary source of income, and a feature on a growing cluster of conservative pod schools, among other things. I’ve helped edited packages and stories across the magazine, including a recent cover package on the tumult at Columbia University. I’m especially interested in immigration, technology, and psychology.

In 2019, my short story Got was awarded the Bridport Short Story Prize, along with an EVVY Award for Outstanding Short Fiction.
