Hi, I’m Paula Aceves. I’m a writer and editor based in Brooklyn.
Currently, I’m an associate editor at New York Magazine. I’ve written reported features and profiles, including a New York Magazine cover story on newly-arrived migrants stuck in a perpetual bureaucratic loop, a reported story on the Columbia faculty embroiled in the Israel/Palestine conflict, a profile of tech ethicist Rumman Chowdhury, a feature on an ongoing wave of social media lawsuits, a feature on a Tibetan NYPD officer accused of espionage, a feature on the Afghan women who have made crypto trading their primary source of income, and a feature on a growing cluster of conservative pod schools, among other things. I’ve also interviewed the man who recorded Jordan Neely’s last moments, one of the migrants forced onto Martha’s Vineyard, and a prolific seller of fraudulent vaccine cards.
I’ve helped edit packages and stories across the magazine, including the most recent edition of the magazine’s Reasons to Love New York issue. I also edit the Grub Street Diet column, which features writers, actors, chefs, and other media personalities each week. I’m especially interested in immigration, technology, and psychology.
In 2019, my short story Got was awarded the Bridport Short Story Prize, along with an EVVY Award for Outstanding Short Fiction.
